State the importance of National Highways in India ?
     (i)  These roads  are  most important because they link important cities and capitals of a country to each other.

    (ii) They are the backbone of the national economy because they add to the mobility of the people,raw materials and finished goods from one part of the country  to the other. They carry  about one third of total road  traffic.
