Describe the role of nationalist newspapers in spreading national feelings among the people in the early 20th century ?

(i) Nationalist newspapers grew in numbers. They reported on colonial misrule and encouraged nationalist activities.

(ii) The papers attempted to throttle nationalist criticism and provoked militant protest.

(iii) When Punjab revolutionaries were deproted in 1907, Balgangadhar Tilak wrote with great sympathy about them in his 'Kesari' . This led to his imprisonment in 1908.
