Discuss briefly the progress of Bengali literature in India ?

The Progress of Bengali Literature in India :

(a) During the closing years of the 18th centuiry, the Serampore Missionaries and the Pandits of the Fort William College attempted to create something llike modern prose literature in Bengali. Raja Ram Mohan Roy, during the early decades of the 19th century used effectively a powerful prose (sambad Kaumudi) for his work of reformation, and has been regarded as "the father of modern Bengali literary prose".

(b) Ram Narayan Tarkaratna's Kulina Kulasarvaswa (1854), "Sarmistha and Tilottama", plays of Michel Madhusudan Dutta including Meghananda Vadha Kavya (poetry) Nila Darpan, a satire composed by Dinabandhu Mitra, historial plays of Dwijendra Lal Roy; poems, novels, short stories, dramas of Rabindramath Tagore, that of Sharat Chandra Chatterjee, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and Ram Chaddha __ all are the superb creations of print culture in India.

(c) On the whole all above literacy works of Bengali language had awaken human instincts to manifest in their benevolent and productive use for mankind as a whole. Some women iterators in Bengali namely, Rashsundari Debi (Amar Jiban, an autobiography) and Kailashvasini Debi.
