What did the caricatures of the 19th century newspapers in India depict ? |
(i) By 1870s, caricatures and cartoons depicting social and political issues were being published in newspapers and journals in India. (ii) These were imperial caricatures ridiculing nationalists as well as nationalist cartoons criticizing imperial rule. (iii) Some of these caricatures criticized and ridiculed growing fascination of Indians with western tastes and clothes, while other caricatures expressed the fear of social change. |
