Will diamond glitter if it is placed in a dark room,just after taking it from bright room?
Diamond is cut in such a way that the faces of the diamond act as prisms. Due to total internal reflection, the light rays get trapped inside the prism and have successive reflections inside the diamond which makes it glitter. Diamonds will look brighter and sparkle more in a room that is mostly dim with a few points of light, such as a candlelit restaurant. Pure diamonds have a high refractive index.
