what is assimilation?
Assimilation is where an organism uses molecules which have been absorbed from external substances (e.g. food) and makes them part of the organism.

Examples of assimilation include the absorption of nutrients into the body after digestion in the intestine, and their transformation into other molecules; and photosynthesis.
