One of the two digit of a two digit number is three times the other digit. If you interchange the digits of this two-digit number and add the resulting number to the original number, you get88. What is the original number.

Let the number be, xy
Then, y = 3x (one digit is three times of the other)
        xy + yx = 88 (Sum of the number and interchanged number)
         xy +
         yx
       -----------
         88

         x 3x +
         3x x
       -------------
          8 8
From this, x + 3x = 8
                        4x = 8
                           x = 8/4
                           x = 2

                  y = 3x
            so,  y=3 * 2
                   y = 6
The number is xy, that is
                    xy = 26
Interchanged number is yx, that is
                     yx = 62

             xy + yx = 88
             26 + 62 = 88
That is, the number is 26
