what is frenkel defect?

The Frenkel Defect is a defect in the lattice crystal where an atom or ion occupies a normally vacant site other than its own.The defect forms when an atom or cation leaves its place in the lattice, creating a vacancy, and holds an interstitial site.It creates a vacancy defect at its original site and an interstitial defect at its new location.This defect is shown by ionic compounds.
