WHAT ARE ANODE RAYS AND CATHODE RAYS? |
An anode ray (also called positive ray or canal ray) is a beam of positive ions that are created by certain types of gas discharge tubes. An anode ray ion source typically is an anode coated with the halide salt of an alkali or alkaline earth metal. Cathode rays (also called an electron beam or e-beam) are streams of electrons observed in vacuum tubes. If an evacuated glass tube is equipped with two electrodes and a voltage is applied, the glass opposite of the negative electrode is observed to glow, due to electrons emitted from the cathode (the electrode connected to the negative terminal of the voltage supply) |
