what are saturated and unsaturated fatty acids?? |
| Saturated fatty acids consist of single bond whereas unsaturated fatty acids consist of atleast one double bond.Fats (triglycerides) that contain palmitic acid and stearic acid are therefore known as saturated fats. Fats made up of saturated fatty acids are solid at room temperature. Two of the carbons are connected by a double bond, and two of the hydrogens are missing. This fatty acid is unsaturated. They are mainly animal fats such as beef, pork and chicken and in animal products such as milk, butter, cheese and eggs. Too much of these fats can collect along the walls of your blood vessels.Saturated fatty acids carbon joins via single bonds only. Unsaturated have both double bonds and single bonds between the carbon atoms. Saturated fatty acids form the maximum number of double hydrogen bonds, while unsaturated ones do not form double bonds. |
