A poverty line refers to the Standard family income threshold set by each state and revised , below which the family is officially classified as poor and entitled to welfare assistance.It is an estimate of minimum level of income needed to secure the necessities of life.Our system classifies  people as below poverty line(BPL) and above poverty line (APL).
