Cytoplasm was first discovered first in 1835 but the discovery is not credited to a single person as many biologists and researchers have contributed to the knowledge on Cytoplasm. Plasma membrane which is also called cell membrane, is the membrane which separate the interior of the cell from the outside environment. It was discovered by Carl Nageli in the year 1855. The term 'membrane' was coined by him and C.Crammer. The microscopic amoeba was first discovered by August Johann Rösel von Rosenhof in 1757. Antony van Leeuwenhoek discovered bacteria. The Animal Cell was first discovered in 1665. It was discovered by Robert Hooke. The cell he was looking at was actually dead. The first person to see a live cell was Anton Van Leeuwenhoek. In 1665 - Robert Hooke looks at cork under a microscope. Calls the chambers he see "cells" 1665 - 75 Anton van Leeuwenhoek, the person incorrectly given credit for the invention of the microscope (actually, he was just damn good at making and using them, and his scopes soon became the standard, and history has just given him credit as the inventor of the microscope), studies organisms living in pond water (like you did in lab). He calls them "Animalcules." 1830 - German scientists Schleiden and Schawann summarize the findings of many scientists and conclude that all living organisms are made of cells. This forms the basis of the Cell Theory of Biology. In 1833: English Botanist Robert Brown discovered the nucleus in plant cells. 1838: Matthias Jakob Schleiden, a German botanist, concluded that all plant tissues are composed of cells and that an embryonic plant arose from a single cell. He declared that the cell is the basic building block of all plant matter. Watson & Crick discovered DNA. It is believed that Richard Altmann is the person who discovered mitochondria in 1880. However, there is a school of thought that differs with this theory. The dutch microscopist, Antony van Leeuwenhoek, discovered vacuole. Van Neil discovered plastids. Christian de Duve was a Belgian researcher who discovered lysosomes in 1949. Albert Claude and Keith Porter discovered the endoplasmic reticulum in 1945. |
