WHAT ARE THE FUNCTION OF DIETARY FIBRES? |
Ans : Dietary fiber includes all parts of plant foods that our body can't digest or absorb. Unlike other food components, such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates which your body breaks down and absorbs ,fiber isn't digested . Instead, it passes relatively intact through the stomach, small intestine, colon and out of your body. Fiber is commonly classified as soluble (it dissolves in water) or insoluble (it doesn't dissolve):The main functions of fibers are 1.Reducing blood cholesterol Soluble fiber helps lower blood cholesterol concentrations by decreasing the absorption of cholesterol and bile acids in the small intestine during digestion. 2.Maintaining bowel health Insoluble fiber helps move digested material through the colon and makes elimination of waste much easier. 3.Maintaining sugar content in the blood Soluble fiber can slow the absorption and digestion of sugars, helps control blood glucose concentrations by slowing the release of sugar into the blood. |
