explain why solids have fixed shape but liquid and gasses have no fixed shape |
The force of attraction between the molecules of solid substance is very large and hence have a definite shape. But in case of liquids the forces are less as compared to solids and hence the particles are held together loosely and therefore posses a property of flow and don't have any particular shape. In cases of gases, the molecules are separated by large distances and the molecules posses negligible force of attraction and hence don't have any fixed shape. |
