WHAT IS SURFACE TENSION?

Surface tension is a property of a liquid by which the free surface of a liquid behaves like a stretched elastic membrane , having contractile tendancy. The surface tension is measured by the force acting per unit length on either side of an imaginary line drawn on the free surface of the liquid at rest . The direction of the force is at right angles to the line and tangential to the liquid surface. Unit of surface tension is N/m.
