what are CBD and MAB?

CBD is convention of biodiversity and MAB is man and biosphere.The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) entered into force on 29 December 1993. It has 3 main objectives:
  1. The conservation of biological diversity
  2. The sustainable use of the components of biological diversity
  3. The fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources

    The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme is an Intergovernmental Scientific Programme aiming to set a scientific basis for the improvement of the relationships between people and their environment globally.

    Launched in the early 1970s, the MAB Programme proposes an interdisciplinary research agenda and capacity building that target the ecological, social and economic dimensions of biodiversity loss and the reduction of this loss. It’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves currently counts 621 biosphere reserves in 117 countries all over the world.
