• Take a variegated leaf.
• Draw its outline on a paper.
• Indicate the green and non-green parts of the leaf on the diagram
• Conduct starch test with the leaf using iodine solution.
• The parts which were green earlier turn into blue-black due to the presence of starch.
• The non-green parts do not show color change.
• This is because the green parts only perform photosynthesis.
• Hence it is proved that chlorophyll is essential for photosynthesis.
