What is Subject verb agreement ? give me few exercises

A verb must agree with its subject in number and person.This is what is called subject-verb agreement. Often,by mistake,the verb is made to agree in number with a noun near it instead of with its proper subject.This is called error of proximity.This should be avoided.Some correct examples are shown below. The quality of the fruits was not good. Here the subject is quality,a singular noun.So singular verb 'was' is used. The results of the Civil Services Examination have been published. Gold and silver are precious metals. These are general cases.There are several exceptions to the general rule.Some examples: Time and tide waits for none.Here singular verb is used as the nouns suggest a single idea. As the topic needs elaborate study, you are advised to go through an advanced English grammar book.
