Britain experience a sharp rise in food prices in late 18 century,which resulted migration of people at a large scale.Examine this statement. (for 5mark )

From the late 18th century, population in Britain was increased and thus increased the demand for food grains. Food grain prices went up as the urban centres expanded and industries grew, increasing the demand for agricultural products.'Corn Laws' import of corn were abolished due to the pressure from the landed groups. After the Corn Laws were abolished, food could be imported into Britain more cheaply than it could be produced within the country. British agriculture was unable to compete with imports. Vast areas of land were now left uncultivated, and thousands of men and
women were thrown out of work and as a resulted they flocked to the cities or migrated overseas.
