what is acceleration due to gravity

The  acceleration produced on a freely falling body by the gravitational pull of the earth is called acceleration due to gravity. It is represented as g. It does not depend on mass size or shape of the body.Its value is 9.8m/s2 near the earth's surface.
             g=GM/R2
g- acceleration due to gravity
G-gravitational constant
M-mass of earth
R-radius of earth
