The modernization of India is the work of the English, and it has affected the entire Indian continent. The main developments brought by the British in India are :
- Introduction of English education: English act as a common language to Indians from diverse regions speaking diverse languages.

- Introduction of printing press: This help to spread nationalist feeling in Indian minds through newspapers and books.
All these factors directly or indirectly germinate nationalist feeling in Indian minds.
