what are the developments brought by the British in India?

      The modernization of India is the work of the English, and it has affected the entire Indian continent. The main developments brought by the British in India are :

  • Introduction of English education: English act as a common language to Indians from diverse regions speaking diverse languages. 
  • Introduction of Railways: Introduction of railway facilitated quick movement from one part of the country to other. Thus people from different regions could come together and communicate .
  • Development of large net work of roads and canals: Introduction of metalled roads made transportation more easily. They built a large net work of roads and canals to connect all major cities ports and agricultural centers.
  • Introduction of post and telegraph: Introduction of post and telegraph help the Indians in different regions to communicate more easily and cheaply.
  • Introduction of printing press: This help to spread nationalist feeling in Indian minds through newspapers and books.
                        All these factors directly or indirectly germinate nationalist feeling in Indian minds.
