what is osmosis

When a solution is separated from its solvent by a semipermeable membrane ,then the solvent flows to the solution side through the membrane .This phenomenon is called Osmosis.Osmosis may takes place when two solutions having different concentrations are separated from each other by a semipermeable membrane .Under these conditions ,the solvent from the solution at lower concentration passes through the membrane to the solution of higher concentration .
