Difference between NIC AND MODEM IN A NETWORK?

A NIC, or network interface card, allows your computer to connect to a network where all the systems are physically cabled together. Network cards are entirely digital. Network cards are thousands upon thousands of times faster than a modem. A network card is a small circuit board inside the computer, which allows the computer to communicate with others that are on the network.

A modem, or modulator/demodulator, serves much of the same functions as a NIC except that it changes digital computer signals to analog signals for transfer over phone lines.

A modem lets you connect to an ISP, a network card just lets you connect to a network or a cable modem or DSL modem sometimes.

A modem is a communication device that uses the already-existing telephone network to facilitate computer communication.
