WHAT DOES WATER POLLUTION HAVE TO DO IN HISTORY? HOW WAS THE SANITATION OF WATER PERFOMED IN THE PAST? WAS THE WATER CLEAN IN THE PAST? |
Water pollution is a major global problem which requires ongoing evaluation and revision of water resource policy at all levels. During the Neolithic period man dug the permanent water wells, from where vessels could be filled and carried by hand. The size of human settlements was largely dependent on nearly available water. Indus Valley Civilization has early evidence of public water supply and sanitation. Elaborate drainage system used by the people of the Harappan Civilisation can be concerned as a good evidence for sanitation of the earlr period. The Roman Empire had indoor plumbing which is a system of aqueducts and pipes that terminated in homes and at public wells and fountains for people to use. All the above facts shows that early man give importance to sanitation of water. |
