what do you mean by wavelenght

It is the distance between the two consecutive points in the medium which are in the same state of vibration, as the wave travels through the medium.

In a transverse wave it is the distance between two consecutive crests or troughs. In a longitudinal wave, it is the distance between the centres of two consecutive compressions or rarefactions.

It is also the distance travelled by the wave in a time interval equal to its period.
