Difference between filament and fuse wire. |
A fuse is a short piece of wire made up of a material of high resistivity and of low melting point, so that it may easily melt due to overheating when current in excess to the prescribed limit passes through it. The thickness of wire is different in different fuses depending on the amount of current which is permitted to flow through them. Generally an alloy of lead and tin is used as the material of the fuse wire because it has a high resistivity and low melting point. Inside the electric bulb it has a tiny coiled wire which is supported by two thick wires making a V - shape. This tiny coiled wire is called a filament. The filament is made up of tungsten. When the bulb is switched on,current flows through the filament and it gets heated up and glows. |
