how can we understand the period of an d subshell from subshell electronic configuration???
We can understand the period of  d subshell, first write the sub shell electronic configuration then  note the outer electronic configuration, from this you can understand in which period the element belong to. Eg :Sc(Z=21),E.C=1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d1.So scandium belongs to third period.
