WHAT ARE THE TWO TYPES OF SHELTERS SET UP FOR HOMELESS LABOURS?

i.Permanent, all weather, day and night community shelters for men: These shelters would primarily cater to single working men, with special facilities available as 12per need for special groups within, such as recovery spaces for persons recovering from ailments, spaces for the aged and disabled etc. Since the proportion of men among homeless is higher, up to 70% of all shelters in a city could be built for men.
ii. Permanent, all weather day and night community shelters for women. At least 20% of all shelters would be devoted to women, and in terms of its location, design, and services and support systems, would be designed to cater to the needs of women and their dependant children if any. In every town or city, no matter how small
the populace, at least one such shelter for women would be constructed.
iii. Family Shelters. For families living on streets family shelters will be provided. At least 10% of the overall numbers of shelters will constitute the family shelter,
with a special design with cubicles for privacy, with shared common spaces. While their housing rights are covered under the RAY and other such allied
social housing programmes, state governments are encouraged to provide transition spaces in the form of family shelters for promoting protected communities and social relationships, till such time as the social housing access fructifies, such as shelters in which there are separate rooms, or segregated spaces, for family units.

iv. Special Shelters. For the most vulnerable segments of homeless persons, such as old persons without care and mentally ill and challenged persons, there may be need for long term social protection institutions, but these should be open and voluntary, and with appropriate services.
