hormones?

Hormones ( Chemical messengers) are complex molecules produced by the body based on carbon especially proteins, steroids, peptides etc. They are produced by various glands (endocrine)  in different parts of the body and are released into the blood stream directly.  Each hormone has a specific target organ. They are produced only in small quantities. Some hormones are TSH, Oxytoxin Vassopressin, Thyroxine, Adrenaline Lutenising  hormone etc.

 They have the following effects on the body:

    stimulation or inhibition of growth
    mood swings
    induction or suppression of apoptosis (programmed cell death)
    activation or inhibition of the immune system
    regulation of metabolism
