a battery of emf 10v &internal resistances 3ohm is connected to a resistor if the current in the circuit is .5A what is the resistance of the resistor ? what is the terminal voltage of the battery when the circuit is closed
Considering the internal resistance of the cell total resistance becomes, r =( R+3)
R - unknown resistance
Let the current ,
I = V/R = 10 / (3+R)  =  .5A
R = 17 ohms
Terminal voltage = cell voltage - voltage drop due to internal resistance 
                             10 - ( .5*3) =10 - 1.5 = 8.5 V
