Do spiders really build their webs towards south?

I think it is false.  It is found with reference to spiders, building their webs different ways depending on their habitat - shaded areas the webs faced east/west with the spiders facing north/south and open areas the spiders faced east/west and the webs north/south but that was just one species.  It also seems to depend on exposure to sun and wind as well.
