check whether the following are quadratic equations: (i)(x+1)2=2(x+3) (ii)x2+3x+1=(x-2)2

Standard Form of the quadratic equation is ax2 + bx + c = 0 (a, b, and c can have any value, except that a can't be 0.)

i) (x + 1) 2 = 2(x + 3)
   2x + 2 = 2x + 6
   2x - 2x + 2 - 6 = 0
Not in standard form, so the given equation is not a quadratic equation.

ii) x2 + 3x + 1 = (x - 2) 2
    x2 + 3x + 1 - 2x + 4 = 0
    x2 + x + 5 = 0
This a standard form of the quadratic equation.
