what is alum? what are its uses?

Alum refers to a class of chemical compounds formed due to the chemical reaction between alkali metal and trivalent metal. The most commonly used alum is known as potash alum, which is actually potassium aluminum sulfate.

Alum has various uses such as it is an ingredient in deodorants and its powder is used to treat haemorrhoid and cuts by reducing and preventing bleeding. Alum is sometimes used in water treatments as a water purifier and in production of homemade modelling materials, which are used by children.
