Who invented electricity?

It is difficult to determine exactly who discovered electricity. Many misconceptions abound, especially the belief that Benjamin Franklin is the father of electricity.  The Franklin experiment helped establish the connection between lightening and electricity, nothing more.Electricity was first studied by the philosopher Thales of Miletus around 600 B.C.The term electricity was coined by English scientist William Gilbert around 1600, who made pioneering discoveries in electrical and magnetic phenomena. So he is considered the father of modern electricity. Some of the people who aided in the invention are William Gilbert, Otto etc.So, the discovery of electricity and the development of electrically operated equipment cannot be attributed to any single individual. It is due to the untiring works of many pioneers that we enjoy the fruits today.
