An Operating System provides the basic functionality  for a computer. It creates a workable Operating Environment for the user.

An example of an Operating System is Windows, Linux, and Macintosh etc.

An Operating System is not a single program, but a collection of software that work and communicate with each other. Operating systems allow people to interact with computer hardware, they're made out of hundreds of thousands of lines of code , usually made with the C, C++, Python  and Assembly programming languages.
