The sum of the squares of 2 consecutive odd numbers is 290. If an odd number is x,what is the next odd number? Write the fact as an equation &find the numbers?
Let the two consecutive odd numbers are x and x+2.
According to the given condition ,x2  + (x+2)2 = 290
ie, x2  + x2  +4x + 4 = 290
ie, x2  +2x - 143 = 0
ie,(x + 13) (x - 11)=0
ie, x = -13 or x = 11
So the numbers are 11 and 13.
