An object of mass 1kg in a straight line with a velocity 10m/s collides with and sticks to a stationary wooden block of mass 5kg.Then they both together move off in the same straight line.calculate the total momentum just before the impact and just after the impact.Also calculate the velocity of the combined object?
m1 =1 kg,m2 =5 kg,v1 =10m/s
Total Momentum before impact =m1 v1 +m2 v2 =(1 x10 ) +0=10 kgm/s
Total Momentum before impact=Total momentum after impact
Therefore,
v2 =m1 v1 /m2 =10/5=2m/s
Total momentum after impact=m2 v2  =5 x2=10kgm/s
