solar system

The Solar System is everything that centers around the sun which  includes eight planets as well as other objects such as asteroids, comets and meteoroids. The Sun lies at the center of the solar system and  dominates all the other objects. Apart from the Sun, the eight planets are the largest objects in the solar system. The planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are small and rocky and are called the terrestrial planets because they resemble the Earth. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are extremely large and gaseous. They are called the Jovian planets because they resemble Jupiter. Pluto is an icy small object and belongs to the class of  dwarf planets.

The Earth is the third planet from the Sun. It is unique as the only one on which  there is life and  observed running water.
