An Operating System, is the master software that is run on a computer or smartphone that allows it to run other applications developed for that platform. Examples of popular modern operating systems include Android, BSD, iOS, Linux, OS X, QNX, Microsoft Windows,[3] Windows Phone, and IBM z/OS.
