A runner runs 1001m in 10s, then turns around and jogs 502m back towards starting point in 30s.Find the average velocity and average speed?


Average velocity = displacement / time 
 Displacement    = 1001-502 = 499 m and time = 10+30 =40 s

ie ,average velocity = 499/40 =12.4 m/s

Average speed = Distance travelled / Time 
                        = (1001 + 502 ) / 40 = 37.5 m/s

Note : Time will be  same for both the cases.
