who were mughals?

 The Mughal emperors were Muslims and direct descendants of Genghis Khan through Chagatai Khan and Timur. The Mughal dynasty was founded by Babur in 1526 by defeating Ibrahim Shah Lodi in the first Battle of Panipat. At the height of their power in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, they controlled most of the subcontinent. Akbar the Great,  Shah Jahan  and Aurangzeb were great leaders of this dynasty .
