what is the difference between a polaroid and a polariser?

A Polaroid is a thin and large sheet of a crystalline polarizing material capable of producing a plane polarized beam of light of large cross section.

Polaroids are used in sunglasses,in wind shields of automobiles,in window panes,in making three dimensional motion pictures, etc.

Polarisers are used to analyse or create polarised light.
