what is covalent bond

A covalent bond is the chemical bond that involves the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms. The stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms when they share electrons is known as covalent bonding.

The sharing of electrons make the atom to attain half filled or completely filled outermost orbitals (shells) corresponding to a stable electronic configuration.

Examples : Bonding in carbon dioxide, water, glucose.
