Though Napoleon was a dictator and was against democracy, the
administrative system introduced by him in the territories ruled by
France (example: the Dutch Republic, Switzerland, Italy and Germany)
made the system more rational and efficient.
- Napoleon reformed the French legal system and simplified the administrative divisions.
- Removed privileges based on birth, abolished the feudal system and freed peasants from serfdom and manorial dues.
- Removed guild restrictions in towns.
- Improved transport and communication systems.
- Introduced uniform system of weights and measures and common
national currency . This facilitated the movement of goods and capital
from one region to another.
- Established uniform laws and equality before law.
- Secured the right to property.
