* Biosphere reserves are a cross section of the biosphere. Why! * what is the importance of Red Data Book! * How does the gene bank helps in conserving bio diversity! * how does the project tiger stands apart from the other wildlife conservation projects!

A Biosphere Reserve is a unique and representative ecosystem of terrestrial and coastal areas which are internationally recognised within the framework of UNESCO's man and biosphere.Biosphere status would be used to engender a stronger sense of community engagement and pride in the local environment, through more environmental education, hands-on experience and practical volunteering opportunities.

The Red Data Book is the state document established for documenting rare and endangered species of animals, plants and fungi as well as some local sub-species that exist within the territory of the state or country. This book provides central information for studies and monitoring programmes on rare and endangered species and their habits.

Gene banks are critical to preserving the biodiversity needed to develop crops that can cope with climate change. Gene banks play a crucial role in the conservation and use of biodiversity. They are important institutions not just for the preservation of germplasm but for its sustainable use. Gene banks are also expected to be generators and sources of new scientific knowledge and information on ecosystems, species and genes.
The Indian strategy of Project Tiger since 1972 to focus on tiger source areas in the form of 'core areas' thus stands vindicated. This vision and ongoing initiatives led
India to have the maximum tiger source sites in the world today. Efforts are underway to mainstream the concerns of tiger in the landscape surrounding suchsource sites through restorative actions, while providing livelihood options to local people to reduce their dependency on forests.
Objectives of NTCA is to provide statutory authority to Project Tiger so that compliance of its directives becomes legal. In the face of pressing challenges of surging human population and pressure on forest land, the Project's biggest success has been to secure several source populations of tigers. In its new avatar as NTCA,
the Project strives to streamline scientific modules of conservation and co-opt communities as responsible stakeholders. Tiger symbolizes the wealth of a nation.
