The Atomic number of chlorine is 17. Atomic weight is 35.45 gms per mole. Chlorine gas exists as a diatomic molecule Cl2. It is in the halogen group. It has highest electron affinity and third highest electronegativity of all the elements. For this reason, chlorine is a strong-oxidizing agent.
