what is plasma and neon? Are they similar? |
Plasma: Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter (the other states of matter are solids, liquids and gas). Heating a gas may ionize its molecules or atoms (reducing or increasing the number of electrons in them), thus turning it into a plasma, which contains charged particles, positive ions and negative electrons or ions. Ionisation can be induced by other means such as strong electromagnetic filed applied with a laser or microwave generator. The presence of ion negligible number of charge carriers makes the plasma electrically conductive. It is quite district from other states of matter. Like gas, plasma does not have a definite shape or definite volume. Some common plasmas are found in stars and neon signs. The neon sign is an electrified glass tube containing a "rarefied" gas (the pressure of the gas is well below the atmospheric pressure). Plasma is the gaseous state of hot ionized material consisting of ions and electrons and present in the stars and fusion reactors. Neon is a colourless odourless gaseous element that give a red glow in a vacuum tube. |
