What is mean by crystal field splitting energy? How can we calculate it?
Crystal field theory:

  This cause a splitting in the energy levels of the d- orbitals. This is known as crystal field  splitting.

  Crystal field splitting number is denoted by the capital Greek letter .  tends to increase with oxidation number and increases down a group on the  periodic table.  It is also known as ligand field splitting.
