why are green plants such an important part of a food chain ?

Green plants such an important part of a food chain because its a producer which gives the energy to the consumers. Green plants are green because they contain chlorophyll and convert carbon dioxide, water, sunlight and nutrients into edible plant matter. They are a mechanism through which solar energy is captured in a form that can then be utilized by the rest of the food chain. Without green plants constantly adding this energy to the food chain, the other entities within the food chain would run out of energy sources since they cannot convert the solar energy directly as a source for their own energy.
