IF P AND Q ARE THE ROOTS OF THE QUADRATIC EQUATION X2-PX+Q=0 THEN P=? Q=?

Since p is a root of the equation x2 + px + q = 0, we have,
p2 + p2 + q =0
2p2 + q = 0 ..... (1)
Similarly, since q is a root of the equation x2 + px + q = 0, we have,
q2 + pq + q = 0
q (q + p + 1) = 0
q = 0 or q = - p - 1
Put q = 0 in (1) ? p = 0
Put q = - p - 1 in (1) ? 2p2 - p - 1 = 0 ? p = 1 or p = - ½
Hence, p = 0 or p = 1 or p = - ½
